The Garden Chick
Michele Alvarez is the owner of a small plant nursery in Monroe County which specializes in native plants, growing microgreens, garden design, and educating home gardeners. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University where she earned a Master of Arts in Learning Disabilities, Michele has transitioned from a traditional classroom to teaching the public from garden classrooms. She leads Monarch Waystation programs at local libraries and township halls where the community can come observe, learn, and reap the benefits of being out in nature. When not gardening, Michele can be found walking the local Metroparks with her senior mastiff, relaxing at wineries, cooking fresh meals, reading, and writing.
